Under the EU ETS (European Union Emission Trading Scheme), large emitters of carbon dioxide within the EU must monitor their CO2 emissions, and annually report them, as they are obliged every year to return an amount of emission allowances to the government that is equivalent to their CO2 emissions in that year. This poses major challenges and risks for aircraft operators.
The Integrated ETS Project aims at standardizing the internal reports across countries by automating the business processes through FileNet P8 and IBM Case Manager. The process of report generation starts with providing the set of Aircraft & Operational documents either through copying them manually and extracting data to database for automating generation process through the IBM FileNet P8 based workflow and IBM Case Manager Systems. The final solution enables Business Process with Case Management capabilties where the incoming documents would be parsed, validated and reconciled for final calculations/report generation. The FileNet P8 BPM workflow would be used to route through the pre-defined standard process. The target process model for most of the flows is to have a standard process model for all the related processes across all participating countries.

The EUETS solution is targeted for a componentized system Architecture and is built on top of the IBM Case Manager 5.0.2. The functionality is divided into multiple modules and its processing happens through Web Services. The objective of design is to provide flexibility for enhancements and reusablity.

The Solution will address the following key areas:

• Calculating the Aviation Activity Data as per the guidelines for monitoring and reports developed by European Commission
• Integration of fragmented IT applications i.e. SAP, AMOS, SABRE load balancing system, JetSoft etc. for creating EUETS reports.
• Integration of other ad hoc scanned documents like AOC, Supplier invoice, Tech Logs, Fleet list etc.
• Improve the overall agility and accuracy in EU ETS reporting, collaboration and responsiveness of stake-holders in decision making for offsetting and analysis through Data Warehouse.
• Facilitate Business Process Management and Workflow automation to minimize the manual intervention in calculations and verification process.
• Ability to have a easily manageable and retrieval audit trail
• Automate EUETS Reporting on Aircraft CO2 Emissions and Tonne Kilometres.
• Reduce repetition of jobs and manual interventions
• Decrease errors in inputs and improve consistency of results.
