A major pharmaceutical company was interested in developing Disaster Recovery capabilities for its recently upgraded Documentum version 6.5 document management system and associated applications including Kofax Capture, eCTDXPress and an internally developed custom application. The Documentum 6.5 system is comprised of separate components including Content Server, Document Compliance Manager (DCM), index server PDF server and ADTS.
Client requested consulting assistance in developing and executing validation services and test protocols that will certify that all important aspects of the Documentum and associated systems are functioning post the recovery from a system failure.
- The Recovery Point Objective (RPO) for this project was 24 hours – The RPO is the time (relative to the disaster) to which client plans to recover all data.
- The Recovery Time Objective (RTO) for this project was 72 hours – The RTO is the time period after a disaster at which client’s Documentum and associated systems must be completely restored.
Work Completed:
Conducted a detailed analysis and review of client’s current Documentum environment as they relate to the implementation of the Disaster Recovery Solution. Also assisted the client’s team with automating and performing the testing of their Documentum Production environment.
Following are the scope details:
- Create Test Strategy Document covering all in scope systems as listed
- Create a Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Test Summary Report for all tested systems.
- Update existing Work Instructions to support disaster.
- Update existing Design Specifications including layout and deployment diagrams where applicable to support Disaster Recovery
- Create and test the Application Specific Disaster Recovery Failover Protocol (ADRP). This protocol is a technical diagnostic that will document the necessary steps to ensure that all essential components of the Documentum and associated systems are configured appropriately per the list of systems mentioned.
- At Time of Test (ATOT) Protocol Creation and Execution. This protocol is a functional diagnostic that will ensure all essential system functionality is working appropriately.
- Execute the ADRP and ATOT onsite at client facility in both the validation and production environments and document the results in a summary document.
- At Time of Disaster Protocol (ATOD Create and Execute). Due to the time sensitivity associated with the recovery of the Documentum system in the event of a disaster, the ATOD document will test only the most critical functional elements of the systems and techniques for identifying missing data due to the disaster and methods of recovering the data. The ATOD can be a subset of the ATOT.
